California AB 2097 – transparency in voting machines

Sorry for the short notice, but I just found out myself that there is an Assembly Elections Committee hearing tomorrow (April 18) for AB 2097, which would require that the specifications and technical details (including source code) for voting machines be available for public scrutiny. Without this, voters have no way to be confident that their votes are counted correctly. (I’ve been insisting on paper ballots rather than the touch screen machines in the last few elections.)

The Open Voting Consortium has more information online, including the phone and fax numbers of the committee members, and a form you can use to send them a message online.

If you’re a California voter, please take the time to let the committee know that you want transparency in voting!
