Printing on CDs/DVDs with Epson Stylus Photo R300

Last December I bought an Epson Stylus Photo R300 inkjet printer, because it was on sale for under $80, and it can print directly onto printable CDs and DVDs. I didn’t actually get around to using it for that until just now. It works great!

On first setting up the printer, I had Windows print a test page, and it printed only the colored panes of the Windows logo. THe black portions of the logo and all the black text were missing. I pulled out the black ink cartridge, reinserted it, and then it printed fine. I think the black cartridge just didn’t get primed enough the first time.
I bought spindles of Verbatim printable 16X DVD+R and 2.4X DVD+R DL media, and Taiyo Yuden printable CD-R media from Newegg. I just burned the Fedora Core 5 x86 installation DVD on a DVD+R, and printed one of Ray Gwinn’s nice Fedora disc labels onto it with the Epson. I’m very happy with the results; it’s so much better than hand-labelling the disc with a Sharpie or printing a paper label to stick onto the disc.
