A computer virus made the rounds, and it took a while for anyone to notice because it didn’t cause any obvious problems. Instead, what it did was modify the Windows Solitaire game to always be unwinnable. Gradually people stopped playing solitaire, and productivity went up.
Eventually when the virus was discovered, a few people were really angry, but most people thought it had been a good thing.
