Digital design by committee

I was at my grandparents’ house, and they had a bunch of guests over for dinner.  They were discussing an electronic design project I was working on, and became convinced that I wasn’t dealing with a particular signal correctly under all conditions.  They were really getting on my case about it, even though I explained why that condition coudln’t actually arise in practice.  I pointed out that in order to handle this case, an extra PAL chip would be required, and that it didn’t make sense to increase the cost for a condition that can’t occur.

My grandmother in particular was adamant that the PAL should be added, so I finally said “Alright!  I’ll add the damn PAL!”  Everyone looked shocked, and my grandmother tried to wash my mouth out with soap.  I refused to open my mouth, so she grabbed my nose until I did.
