You say:
"Apparently if I really want Super Monkey Ball and the Rotary Dialer, I’ll have to buy them again."

You did know that if you download an application that you have previously downloaded, then the App store knows that and tells you so, letting you download it for free.

The only annoyance with this is that it doesn't tell you before you commit to buy. In other words if you 'think' you had bought the application previously, but in fact hadn't you wouldn't find this out until you've committed to buy it. Sequence is like this:
Choose App
Select to buy the App
Enter password to confirm
If you've previously bought it, you get prompt telling you so and asking if you want to download it again for free.

Hope this helps

I totally agree with you.

I bought heaps of apps while i was bored on holidays to play on the plane, now i'm home i can't 'sync' more music on to my phone without it deleting all my apps.

Its totally BS n everytime i use itunes it manages to make me very frustrated that something that is suppose to be so hi-tech and advanced is so...well....stupid.

so now i have a choice, new music/ringtones or no apps

sooooooo frustrating...

I more than completely agree with you. iTunes is the most counter-intuitive application from Apple, if not the world. OK that's an exaggeration.

Backup vs. Sync?
Sync all mail settings, not just Outlook or Windows mail?

All I wanted to do was return my defective iPhone 3g after backing it up using iTunes, and then copy that "image" over to the my new replacement iPhone. What a crock. I lost all my applications and music. How could this be any more straightforward? iTunes needs an overhaul.
