For some time I’ve been annoyed with Firefox because every time I try to type an apostrophe or slash into a text box, instead of entering that character, it goes into “find” mode. In the advanced tab Tools/Options dialog there’s a setting for accessiblity for “begin finding when you begin typing”, but the checkbox was off.
I finally learned today that the actual configuration setting for autofind may be turned on even though the dialog checkbox is off. This seems to be a bug in Firefox, and is present in all recent versions through the current 1.5.0.7.
The simple fix is explained in the 8 Ways to Sunday blog.
