Petition to End Women’s Suffrage
0 Comments Published by Eric June 14th, 2008 in Freedom and liberty, School & EducationI wish I could say that I was surprised at how many female students at Padua Academy were willing to sign a petition to end women’s suffrage. The issue seems to be controversial at UVM.
Personally, I’m in favor of women’s suffrage.
More physicist action figures needed!
0 Comments Published by Eric May 27th, 2008 in Natural SciencesNow that I’ve got an Albert Einstein action figure, it occurs to me that I need some other physicist action figures to keep him company. Unfortunately there don’t seem to be any action figures of Neils Bohr, Marie Curie, Richard Feynman, Albert Michelson, or Max Planck. No wonder so few children grow up to [...]
Out of curiousity, I tabulated some of the data from the commencement program. I didn’t double-check my work, so I may have introduced errors.
A total of 518 Associate’s degrees were awarded to 396 students, with 294 students receiving single degrees, 83 students receiving two degrees, 17 students receiving three degrees, and 2 students receiving [...]
Celebrating graduation
0 Comments Published by Eric May 24th, 2008 in Comestibles, School & EducationMike, Diane, Dan and I went to Scott’s Seafood in San Jose for dinner. I had a cup of New England style clam chowder, the seared ahi tuna entrée, and the crème brulee. Everything was delicious, and the service was excellent.. The restaurant is on the sixth floor, and has a nice [...]
Only 26 years since I first entered college, I can finally say that I’m a college graduate, though I’ve only earned an Associate’s degree (Associate of Arts in Mathematics). The graduation ceremony was this afternoon. The speeches were mercifully short. Despite their being almost 200 certificate and 400 degree graduates, the whole ceremony took only [...]
Suboptimal cap and gown
0 Comments Published by Eric May 13th, 2008 in Film, School & Education, The Suboptimal WayI just bought a cap and gown, so I guess I will go to commencement after all.
Herff Jones apparently must make them from some ridiculously cheap fabric, since they say not to wash or dry clean them. I presume they must use better fabrics for the rental ones so that they can at least be [...]
Confirmation of graduation requirements
0 Comments Published by Eric April 27th, 2008 in School & EducationI’ve finally received in the mail a letter from Mission College confirming that I’ve met the requirements for my Associate of Arts in Mathematics degree, that the degree will appear on my transcript after the end of the semester, and that I’ll receive my diploma by mail four to six months after the end of [...]
Dealing with the college Admissions and Records bureacracy
0 Comments Published by Eric March 20th, 2008 in School & Education, The Suboptimal WayOn March 6, I went to the Admissions and Records office at Mission College, and turned in two separate things:
An “Application for Degree” form, with math course substitutions from other institutions signed off by the chairman of the math department, and a completed worksheet (the application deadline was March 7)
A transcript from De Anza College, [...]
Lecture on phasors in circuit analysis class
0 Comments Published by Eric March 19th, 2008 in Electrical EngineeringThe lecture on phasors went on for about an hour, and I was surprised that no one cracked a single Star Trek joke.
Application for Associate’s Degree
1 Comment Published by Eric March 7th, 2008 in School & EducationOn Thursday I submitted my Application for Degree to Mission College. It’s for an Associate of Arts in Mathematics degree. This is my second attempt; after I submitted one a year ago, I ended up dropping English Composition I due to a schedule conflict. I finally completed English Composition I at De Anza College in [...]
