FOIA request to the NSA regarding telephone call detail records

On May 11 I submitted a FOIA (5 U.S.C. 552) request to the NSA which requested information on their arrangements with telecommunications carriers to obtain telephone call detail records without warrants or court orders. I haven’t gotten a reply yet; it will be interesting to see how they respond. I expect that they will claim that the information I’ve requested is covered by one of the FOIA exemptions.

By law they are required to respond within 20 business days, or provide written notice of an extension of that time limit. I should hear something back from them by June 9.
