Buying a refrigerator

I was visiting Richard, a friend who lives in another city.  His refrigerator was full, so there was no where to put my perishable items.  Richard suggested that I go buy a refrigerator.  I pointed out that I didn’t have a way to transport a refrigerator from the store to his house.  He said not to worry about tthat because Gary would bring it over in his truck.

I went to an appliance store, and was lookinng at the various refrigerators on display.  A salesman asked me what kind of processor I wanted, what speed, how much cache, etc.  This seemed rather strange.  I had another appointment, so I left, but Gary said that he’d take care of it.

I got back to Richard’s house later that day, and Gary was just finishing up setting up the refrigerator.  He’d already put the CPU and memory on the motherboard and installed it in the refrigerator.  Just as I arrived he was putting on the side panels and was about to plug it in.  He said he’d gotten a really good deal for me on a refrigerator system using an Althon XP CPU.

I thought it was ridiculous to use an Athlon XP in a new refrigerator now, and said that I would go back to the store and exchange the CPU and motherboard for an Athlon 64 and supporting motherboard.  But then I realized that the CPU couldn’t be exchanged becuase it already had the heat sink/fan and thermal compound on it, and the motherboard couldn’t be exchanged because I didn’t have the box it came in.  So I told Gary that he could have the CPU and motherboard, and that I would buy new ones.

I still don’t know why the refrigerator needed any processor at all, much less a 32-bit or 64-bit processor.
